Lumabit Terms and Conditions
Effective Date: 1 June 2025
1. Who can use Lumabit
Lumabit is designed for learners of all ages, including youth. You can explore content without signing in, but creating an account will allow you to save your progress - especially on shared devices. Teachers and educators create an account to access teaching-specific tools and features.
2. Content and licensing
Lumabit supports Open information and Open source.
All educational content is licensed under Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 . This means you're free to reuse and remix the lessons, with attribution and under the same license.
The Lumabit platform code is open source under the GNU AGPL-3.0 license . Both licenses will be available in the respective LICENSE.md files:
3. Contributions and payments
Lumabit operates a pay-what-you-can model. Contributions are accepted via our 3rd party payment provider - Paystack. You can change your contribution amount each year, including choosing not to contribute. Because contributions are voluntary, they are not refundable.
4. User responsibilities
To help us save your progress, we recommend using your own account login. Sharing logins is permitted, but individual data may not be tracked correctly. Always be kind and respectful when interacting with other users. We do not allow any kind of harassment, abuse, or spam toward our team or other users.
5. Account suspension
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts involved in abuse, spamming, or harassment.
6. External tools and accuracy
Many Lumabit lessons leverage and link to external tools as we aim to provide real-life digital skills. These services are run independently, and are governed by their own terms, which you are subject to when you use them. We donβt guarantee their availability or functionality.
In the case that this service/website is no longer operational, lesson content will remain available on our GitHub repository.
7. Governing law
Lumabit is operated from South Africa. Any disputes or legal matters will be handled under South African law.
8. Changes to these terms
Terms may change over time. We'll post updates at lumabit.org/terms and changes can be tracked on our public repositories.
9. Accuracy
We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any of our content. We welcome feedback on our content and service.
